Weekly dispatches from the lesser-talked about restaurants of Los Angeles πππ
Starting in 2024 (ok, a bit before), Substack will be the new home of Eat the World Los Angeles. After a work year that was not as fruitful as in the past, happening at the same time as dining prices continuing to skyrocket, I found myself cutting many meal opportunities out of the routine. Spending so much money on what was only a hobby was not the most economical decision I could be making.
I miss it too much though, and after receiving a few different monotization pushes from people that value my work, I have decided to give it a go here on Substack.
With this decision and resulting change, there is also a promise to give readers. I will still focus on the many places in Greater Los Angeles that are independently owned and not monied enough to hire PR firms. I will write the stories of their foods and tie them into the history of Southern California and the nations and regions their recipes were born. If the community becomes large enough and sustainable, I hope to have even more time to request interviews and learn straight from the people that make foods that diverse communities in Los Angeles miss βfrom back home.β
The promise will include at least one article every week showcasing a new restaurant, from recent openings to those serving their communities for decades. For online media and legacy publications, the click is king and coverage has to make sure to optimize that. Eat the World Los Angeles will continue to write about the foods that inspire hunger and good memories rather than social media engagement. I promise to keep the focus on tradition and culture, and how those pass through time and location to make our city such a vibrant place to live and eat.
$30/year was the lowest price point I could choose, but hopefully I can make something worth well more than $2.50/month. Thank you for your support!
